Lisa Banes, who plays Marybeth Elliott, launches into this CV list of accomplishments that her daughter has achieved and it’s a very telling look into this woman’s relationship with her daughter. Lisa’s very, very good at this and there’s a certain theatricality that she has to have in order to see why Amy has the issues that she has with her parents and Lisa was able to project that to the third balcony. It’s a wonderful interchange between seeing how Nick takes in his mother and father-in-law and the distance that he wants from them. Then as Marybeth goes into her listing of Amy’s accomplishments, you can see that he and Go don’t really take Amy’s journalistic accomplishments that seriously. It’s a great way to show just how confusing and human and complicated the relationship between all these people is. - David Fincher
